Job Summary

Leaders International is seeking a highly experienced Senior Communications Officer to lead and oversee communications efforts for its projects across Jordan, Ramallah, and Belgium. Based in Amman, this full-time position requires a strategic thinker with hands-on experience in managing multi-country communications portfolios, ensuring donor visibility, leading content production, and implementing cross-channel campaigns.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in communications within the development or NGO sector, fluency in Arabic and English, and a proven ability to manage teams, strategies, and deliverables.

Job Task and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of communications strategies and action plans for projects in Jordan, Ramallah, and Belgium.
  • Supervise and support in-country communications officers and ensure regional alignment with overall communication goals.
  • Produce and oversee the production of high-quality, bilingual (Arabic and English) content, including social media posts, press releases, success stories, newsletters, and publications.
  • Coordinate the development and execution of regional and project-specific communication campaigns, including Calls to Action (CTA), visibility efforts, and digital advertising.
  • Manage media relations across the region, build press networks, prepare media kits, and coordinate interviews, op-eds, and media coverage.
  • Ensure full compliance with donor visibility requirements and branding guidelines.
  • Provide strategic input into event planning and manage visibility for high-profile events and launches.
  • Lead the monitoring and evaluation of communication efforts, providing regular reporting on KPIs, media coverage, social engagement, and reach.
  • Ensure coordination with the HQ and project teams to align messaging, timelines, and reporting cycles.
  • Offer training or capacity building for junior communications staff and in-country teams as needed.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in communications, ideally in the development, humanitarian, or NGO sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
  1. Strategic communications planning and execution
  2. Multi-stakeholder and donor visibility coordination
  3. Media relations and campaign design
  4. Social media advertising, monitoring, and analytics
  5. Bilingual content creation (Arabic and English)
  6. Team supervision or mentoring
  • Strong understanding of the communications and media landscape in Jordan and the region.
  • Familiarity with donor-funded project environments and communication/reporting expectations.

Personal attributes and other requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both Arabic and English (spoken and written).
  • Leadership capabilities with an ability to manage multiple priorities and delegate effectively.
  • High attention to detail and quality assurance in content and deliverables.
  • Strategic thinking, initiative, and ability to anticipate communication needs.
  • Strong time and task management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel if needed.

Added Values (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Photography and videography skills for field coverage and documentation.
  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Familiarity with AI-powered content creation tools (e.g., ChatGPT, AI-based video/photo editors).
  • Knowledge of web content management systems or email marketing platforms.
