SUMMARY

The NATO Liaison Office (NLO) Jordan in Amman represents NATO in Jordan, with the aim of enhancing political dialogue and practical cooperation in areas of common interest between the Alliance and Jordan, building on their longstanding partnership bilaterally and in the framework of the Mediterranean Dialogue (MD). The NLO enables regular engagement between NATO and the Jordanian authorities and contributes to the development and implementation of partnership programmes and activities.

The Driver provides reliable and safe driving and delivery services for the NLO, NATO staff, and visitors in Jordan, ensuring the highest standards of reliability, integrity and safety. As a member of the Administrative Support Section, the incumbent performs secondary tasks related to the smooth running of the NLO. The incumbent should be flexible to work outside of normal working hours. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

The incumbent must:

  • be a citizen of Jordan;
  • possess a good general education at the higher secondary level;
  • have a minimum of three years of work experience as a professional driver;
  • hold a driver’s licence valid in Jordan (Category 3-1) with knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance;
  • have local know-how of Jordanian administrative procedures and local services;
  • possess the following language levels: English, Level III (Intermediate); Arabic Level VI (Proficiency);
  • have no criminal record, no traffic record, and pass security vetting. 

DESIRABLE

The following would be considered an advantage:

  • experience driving a civilian armoured vehicle and a professional driver training such as defensive driver training, and other specialized training;
  • a certificate of basic first aid training;
  • the ability to use radio communications and basic computer skills. 

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide support for the everyday transportation of the NLO staff and, when needed, related officials/visitors;
  • Maintain an overall situational awareness regarding the security situation in the area of operations and keep updated on the local traffic situation and current/planned roadworks and traffic conditions;
  • Conduct all administrative tasks related to cars and road moves (e.g. drafting journey management plans, maintaining car logbooks, handling car registration, insurance and customs clearance);
  • Drive safely, following applicable regulations governing vehicle operation including implementing all security and safety procedures to ensure the safety of passengers;
  • Load and unload vehicles, pick up office supplies and deliver and collect packages, publications, correspondence, government documents including accreditations and visas, as well as other materials as directed;
  • Maintain the cleanliness of vehicles, garages and related work areas;
  • Inspect vehicles and perform daily vehicle maintenance such as regulating tire pressure and fuel/lubricants/water and other minor maintenance procedures as necessary;
  • Ensure the appropriate response to any road accidents and complete incident and accident reports when necessary and provide first aid to passengers in case of injuries caused by an accident;
  • Provide interpretation services to facilitate vehicle movements at entry gates, checkpoints, and at any other time during the transport of passengers;
  • Provide local know-how and practical support to the NLO staff in their day-to-day activities and interactions with Jordanian administration and structures, as well as local services.

INTERRELATIONSHIPS

The Driver reports to the Head of the NATO Liaison Office, through the Coordinator (Finance & Administration) in Jordan. The incumbent works closely with the NLO Staff and interacts with the official visitors by maintaining a professional, courteous, and responsible client-oriented manner.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

The monthly basic salary for this post is 1087,71 JOD (subject to local taxation). The monthly basic salary will be reviewed every two years and is not exempt from taxation. Additional allowances or adjustments may be applied.

NATO may offer a one-year contract to the successful candidate, which may be renewed for subsequent periods.This possibility is based on the needs of NATO and on the performance of the incumbent.

The nature of this position may require the staff member to travel for work and/or to work outside normal office hours. It may also require periods of teleworking from home for administrative related tasks.

The NATO Liaison Office in Jordan is a non-smoking environment.
